Location/Directions
The Alexander Schaeffer Farm is located on PA Rte 501 (Carpenter St.) just south of the village of Schaefferstown in Lebanon County, PA
In 1758 town founder Alexander Schaeffer bought a tract of some 103 acres, to add to the 400 acres tract he had previously purchased for his town. Part of this tract (90 acres) comprises what we know today as the Alexander Schaeffer Farm. The earliest portion of the farmhouse may date from about 1758. It was enlarged and remodeled about 1771 by Henry Schaeffer, Alexander’s son and is noteworthy for the two whiskey stills on the basement level. The farm also includes an 18th century smokehouse and pig sty, and a large bank barn, built in 1890 to replace an earlier structure which was destroyed by fire. Historic Schaefferstown purchased the farm in 1966. --HSI website
